Nokia’s 5800 variant designed with the GPS users in mind the 5800 Navigation Edition has hit the US shelves. While the device remains unchanged from the 5800 Xpressmusic edition in terms of most specs, the GPS-enabled model comes with device lifetime voice-guided navigation for North America and a car kit so it can be easily mounted on a dashboard or windshield.

The handset will feature -
  • a 3.2-inch touchscreen with a 360 x 640 pixel resolution and 16 million colors
  • 3G with HSDPA, EDGE/GPRS
  • Wi-Fi, Bluetooth with A2DP, USB 2.0 (micro)
  • GPS with A-GPS support (preloaded Ovi Maps)
  • 3 Megapixel AF camera with an LED flash
  • MicroSD card support up to 16GB
  • 3.5mm handsfree socket for audio and video (TV Out)
The Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition with Ovi Maps for mobile features car navigation with safety features like speed limit warnings, speed camera alerts and near real-time information on traffic congestion due to roadwork or accidents. When walking, the service provides pedestrian-friendly directions, including routes that include one-way streets and through parks, pathways and other shortcuts. Nokia has put its maps and the ability to search addresses and calculate routes directly on the device. This means users do not lose navigation capability when they travel to remote locations where cellular coverage may be unavailable, and can also avoid significant mobile data charges. The Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition comes pre-loaded with maps for the entire U.S. and Canada, but users may also update and add maps from more than 180 additional countries at any time for free using Nokia Map Loader, a downloadable PC application available at www.nokiausa.com/maps.

The Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition will retail for approximately Rs. 13, 953 ($299). As of now we’re not certain when or if it’ll hit the Indian market but it’s quite a likely possibility considering GPS is starting to be taken very seriously in the country these days. Stay tuned.
