20 million Galaxy S III handsets sold in 100 days

| by tech2 News Staff | Smartphones

The Samsung Galaxy S III continues to notch up worthy milestones. In July, Shin Jong-kyun, the president of the company's information technology and mobile communication division, announced that the brand had sold over 10 million units of the handset globally. In what marks as another feather in the company’s cap, Samsung has recently announced that it has sold 20 million units of the Galaxy S III worldwide in the first 100 days since it has been launched. This is certainly a very impressive feat and the brand has managed to notch up this figure three times faster than its highly successful Galaxy S II handset.

If one needs to calculate, the brand has sold a whopping 200,000 units per day, making it its most successful smartphone to date. In July, Samsung announced that the phone has been received well across the world.

The Samsung Galaxy S III comes with Android 4.0.4 out of the box and is fuelled by a 2100mAh battery. The S III is powered by a 1.4GHz quad-core Exynos 4 processor and sports an 8MP shooter.

Later this year, Samsung has plans of introducing a 64GB variety of the handset. In its statement, Samsung added, “The 64GB model of the GALAXY S III will be available during the second half of this year. The market availability and timing may vary and will be determined at the time of release.”

When Samsung announced the Galaxy S III, the handset was available in two colour options – Pebble Blue and Marble White. In what comes as another major push for this smartphone, the brand has recently announced the availability of some more colour options such as Spiral Black, Garnet Red and Embassy Brown.

All eyes are now also on what the Cupertino-based company Apple will do with its iPhone 5, which is also expected to be announced in the next few days. In his statement, which created quite a stir, Terry Gou, CEO of Hon Hai Precision Industry or Foxconn (the company that builds iPhones) stated that consumers should wait for the launch of Apple’s iPhone 5 and that the newest 'i' devices will put Samsung’s Galaxy III to shame. The truth will be only ascertained once the iPhone 5 actually launches. Till then, folks at Samsung can rejoice.
