A few days ago, there had been rumours doing the rounds that Samsung had quashed its plans of releasing a 64GB variant of the Galaxy S III and this news became known when a UK retailer started canceling orders for the device fitted with this storage capacity. However, this appears to not be the case and Samsung has reached out to website Android Central and stated that it will in fact release a 64GB variety of the handset by the second half of this year.
As per the statement issued by Samsung, the Korean smartphone manufacturer has said, “The 64GB model of the GALAXY S III will be available during the second half of this year. The market availability and timing may vary and will be determined at the time of release.”
64GB version coming in the near future
The news of the 64GB Samsung Galaxy S III came to light when UK retailer Expansys started canceling pre-orders of the product. This prompted a number of websites to query the fact that since the handset comes with a MicroSD card slot for expanding the available storage, Samsung may have thought it best to shelve plans for unveiling a 64GB model.
So with the news of Samsung still having a 64GB Galaxy S III on their agenda, this information will certainly please those who are eagerly awaiting the handset with this high storage capacity. Android Central also goes on to state, “So it looks like we’ll still get a 64GB-flavored S III, and with it the prospect of pairing it with a 64GB MicroSD card for a whopping 128GB of storage. Samsung’s language, though, suggests that not all S III launch territories will necessarily see the 64GB version, which could be why some retailers are hedging their bets and cancelling orders.”
Which countries will be greeted with the 64GB version of the Samsung Galaxy S III is not known as of yet. However, India should be a country that may get this handset as Samsung has a vast user base in India and this handset in particular is faring well in the market. Another reason why Samsung may launch this variant of the Samsung Galaxy S III in India is because Apple has been selling the 64GB iPhone 4S in India. So to further cement itself as a dominant force in the smartphone sector and to battle the competition from Apple, there is a strong likelihood that it will be launched here.
