Acer CloudMobile gets some screen time in hands-on video

| by Roydon Cerejo | Smartphones

Acer has been a quite mum about MWC and there haven’t been many leaks or announcements from them, hinting at what we can expect, this year. Now, thanks to the good folks at CellularMagazine, we now have a first look at Acer’s CloudMobile smartphone that will be unveiled at MWC, next week. The video may not be in English, but it at least gives you an idea about what to expect from this upcoming phone.

The first thing you’ll notice is that it bears some resemblance to the Acer Liquid, owing to the same curved top and bottom sections. The phone has a 4.3-inch screen with a 720p display, and is powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core processor. It also has an 8MP camera in the back, along with HSPA, Wi-Fi and NFC capabilities. It will be running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich out-of-the-box and thankfully, Acer hasn’t made too many changes to the UI and left it as stock as possible. What’s weird is that the phone has capacitive buttons as well as the onscreen menu buttons of ICS. We hope Acer remedies this by mapping the software buttons to the capacitive ones, when it actually launches.

The rear portion is completely new and instead of a glossy finish, we now have, what appears to be, a rubberized coating. The little square you see at the bottom is probably the area where the NFC chip is. As far as the name goes, we think it has something to do with Acer's new cloud service that they announced at CES 2012, called AcerCloud. The phone will be unveiled, sometime next week, so we hope to get more details on it then.

 7.0

We’ve already established that the Lumia 720 is Nokia’s best effort as far as Windows Phone 8 handsets go. This could soon change once the Lumia 925 hits markets, but as it stands now, the Lumia 720 offers the best blend of features and performance, wrapped in a beautiful package that’s quite affordable.
