Alien Dalvik will Allow Android App Emulation on Other Operating Systems

09 Feb, 2011, 11:57 am IST | by Sriram Gurunathan | Smartphones

Myriad today announced the Alien Dalvik software, one that will let non-Android users run Android apps on their device. The name is derived from Dalvik, the Java virtual machine that’s present in the Android Operating System. Alien Dalvik will let other OS’ run Android apps without performance compromises and will also make porting easy for Android developers, because all they’ll have to do is repackage the existing APKs.

Myriad claims Alien Dalvik is completely transparent from a user perspective, because the Alien Dalvik applications will appear native and can be seamlessly installed on their devices. The increased access to a wider range of applications will encourage a higher frequency of downloads, something Google want from their Android Market.

Alien Dalvik will be showcased at the shortly upcoming Mobile World Congress at Barcelona, and will be commercially available later in the year. First for MeeGo and later the rest of the Operating Systems. Maemo support is also incoming apparently, because the Nokia N900 is the device that’ll be used to showcase the application at MWC.

I can't wait to see how this application works. How about you? Anyway, check out the video below.
