Apple eyeing Samsung Galaxy Note II now

| by tech2 News Staff | Smartphones

Apple has sought the inclusion of the Samsung Galaxy Note II to the list of devices, which allegedly infringes on Apple's patents, the Sydney Morning Herald reports. This development marks the continuation of the attempts of the warring companies to get sales bans implemented on each other’s products, which they believe infringe their respective patents. As per the filings at the San Jose federal court in California, not only does Apple want Samsung’s Jelly Bean-running devices included in the list, but also those running the Ice Cream Sandwich version.

The Note II comes with a 5.5-inch display

The newest to come?

Only recently did Samsung Electronics receive a go-ahead by a US Magistrate, Judge Paul Grewal, in San Jose, California, to put forth its claims that the Apple iPhone 5 violates its patents. The US judge also allowed Apple to go ahead with its claims that the Samsung Galaxy Note, Galaxy S III, and the Google-owned Android Jelly Bean operating system violate its patents. This development is the latest in what has been a longstanding patent battle involving Cupertino-based Apple and brands manufacturing Android-running devices, Samsung being one of them. At the time, both companies had refused to comment.

Samsung officially took the wraps off the Galaxy Note II at the IFA event in August. Apart from the fact that it features Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out of the box, and is powered by a 1.6GHz quad-core processor, the major talking point about the Galaxy Note II is that it features the Air View.

Here is a quick look at the highlighted features of the Samsung Galaxy Note II:

  • 5.5-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen with a 1280 x 720 pixel density
  • 4G LTE, EDGE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n (2.4 & 5 GHz), Wi-Fi HT40, NFC
  • GPS with GLONASS and A-GPS support
  • Bluetooth v4.0 with USB 2.0 Host
  • 8 megapixel AF/ Touchfocus camera with full HD video recording and playback, 1.9MP VT Camera, BSI front facing camera
  • 16GB, 32GB and 64GB versions, all with expandable support up to 64GB
  • 2GB RAM
  • MHL for AV out

On a related note, Samsung has, on its official Korean website, shared that the global cumulative sales of the Galaxy Note II have exceeded five million units. Interestingly, it was only at the start of this month that Samsung announced that over three million units of the Galaxy Note II phablet have been sold since worldwide it was first launched in September.

At the time, Samsung announced that the 5.5-inch smartphone is selling at three times the pace of the original Galaxy Note. 10 million units of the handset have been sold across the globe since the Note was launched.
