BlackBerry's latest smartphones - The Bold (9900/9930) and Curve (9350/9360), which already come loaded with NFC capabilities will now also include Assa Abloy's famed iClass functionality. Popular smartphone, BlackBerry's makers - RIM and Assa Abloy, a brand renowned for their digital keys-enabled security solutions have now taken their 'close cooperation' to a new level. According to an official announcement, the above mentioned BlackBerry smartphones will be a replacement to access cards that are used to flash in front of doors to gain entry in buildings like offices, among others The future of accessibility?
The completely electronic-based locking system will be incorporated into the BlackBerry Bold (9900/9930) and Curve (9350/9360) by the way of the iClass digital technology. The iClass digital technology systems put in place in these BlackBerry smartphones will be compatible with a large installed base of iCLASS readers, which are being increasingly set-up in several facets of everyday business, like physical access systems in buildings, to student IDs, to applications that track time and attendance. This simply means, the age of possessing an access card just to make one's way inside, is practically in the twilight of its lifetime. A demonstration of this technology was done in the ASIS International 2011 held in September, at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida.
