BlackBerry London resurfaces with an all new design

01 Feb, 2012, 9:36 am IST | by Aaron Almeida | Smartphones

Back in November, it was reported that the first BBX handset to be introduced later this year would be the BlackBerry London. Earlier this year it appears that the plans for two other BBX handsets had been scrapped and these said handsets went under the names, Milan and Colt. Two things have changed since the BlackBerry London first made its way online; the name BBX got changed to BlackBerry 10 and now as per a report by CrackBerry, the design of the handset has undergone a makeover.

The previous render of the handset featured a metallic finish with sharp edges, much like the limited edition Porsche designed BlackBerry P’9981. The only difference between the Porsche designed handset and the London was that the latter featured no keyboard. As per the report by CrackBerry, they have received an image of the London and a few details on it. The report says that the BlackBerry London looks like a smartphone version of Research in Motion’s tablet, the PlayBook featuring rounded corners and an all-black finish. As for the technical specifications, the website states, “We're hearing that both the TI OMAP5 and Qualcomm chipsets are being tested (1.5GHz dual core processors). If we look ahead by looking at BlackBerry history, it could be that Qualcomm is for the CDMA carriers. All we know is that with the BlackBerry PlayBook rocking and rolling the PlayBook OS at 1Ghz, that with 1.5Ghz as a baseline BlackBerry 10 phones will not be lacking in the performance department.”

The previously rumoured specifications of the handset before the design refresh were said to be:

  • BlackBerry 10 OS
  • 3.7-inch touchscreen
  • 1.5GHz TI OMAP dual-core CPU
  • 1GB RAM
  • 16GB internal memory
  • 8 Megapixel rear camera
  • 2 Megapixel front camera

As of now, details are still hazy regarding the handset, which is slated to be introduced in the UK and if the leaked BlackBerry roadmap is anything to go by, we should see it being launched by the third quarter of this year.
