BlackBerry Z10 shows up online for Rs 44,990

| Smartphones

If you’re looking to grab the BlackBerry Z10, well, you’re in luck. The smartphone is available on some online stores and is priced around the Rs 45,000 range. While the phone does seem to be available on websites like Tradus, other websites like Flipkart don’t even seem to have a picture of the handset, let alone pricing and release date information.

However, the phone is set to launch in a couple of days, so rest assured we will definitely list out the official pricing when it's announced, as well as get a review up as soon as we can. By our estimations, the smartphone will be officially launched in the higher-end of the pricing spectrum, as it is BlackBerry’s new flagship device. We're thinking it'll land somewhere between Rs 38,000 to Rs 43,000.

The launch will take place in Mumbai and BlackBerry has sent us a rather unique invitation on a thermochromic mug. The unusual invite revealed a screenshot from the Z10’s Calendar app highlighting February 25 as the date to keep free.

The BlackBerry Z10 was unveiled along with the new BlackBerry 10 OS on January 30. The device has been selling in the grey market since then and the handset's price initially was at a whopping Rs 80,000. It has since fallen, thanks in no small measure to the official launch date drawing closer. As of now the Blackberry Z10 is priced at Rs 42,000 and still selling relatively well.

The Z10 should be available in black as well as a white version. More information about pricing, exchange or upgrade offers and carrier-specific deals should also be available early next week.

Here is a quick look at some of the highlights of the Z10:

  • 4.2-inch screen with a resolution of 1280 x 768
  • LTE, 3G, EDGE, Wi-Fi, NFC
  • GPS with A-GPS support
  • Bluetooth 4.0 with A2DP
  • 8 megapixel AF camera with 1080p recording, 2 megapixel front-facing camera with 720p recording
  • 16GB internal memory, expandable up to 64GB via microSD
  • MicroHDMI for AV out

The phone is powered by a dual-core 1.5GHz processor and comes with 2GB of RAM. The BlackBerry Z10 will be kept powered on by an 1800mAh battery.

The BlackBerry Z10 offers exclusive access to BlackBerry World, which includes movies, music and TV shows for purchase and rentals. However, whether the company will announce any India-specific content partners remains to be seen. BlackBerry did announce tie-ups with major global media houses at the launch.

On the apps front, a lot of India-specific applications are expected since BlackBerry has been conducting app development marathons in India and as well as abroad. The device also runs some Android applications, but these will run on an Android 2.3 Gingerbread runtime, which is also expected to be upgraded to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean for better compatibility with new apps.
