Galaxy S III and next iPhone to feature new materials

| by Aaron Almeida | Smartphones

It was recently reported that a device had surfaced in the form of a leaked image showing what is supposedly the next flagship handset from Samsung, the Galaxy S III. The interesting bit about this image is that it shows the S III sporting a glossy metal exterior. One may fancy this design as it will feature a classy design or downright hate it because of the amount of fingerprints that will arise while handling it. However, the image of the handset may be an early prototype of the Samsung flagship and may not be the final design that will be adopted by Samsung when they announce the next Galaxy on the 3rd of May 2012. With all the rumours regarding the Galaxy S III gathering momentum, another bit of information has surfaced regarding it, is again about the exterior of the smartphone as well as its main competitor, the next Apple iPhone.

As per a report by etnews, industry sources have informed them that the upcoming flagship handsets will feature ground breaking materials for the main body. “The next flagship phones of the companies are expected to adopt unprecedented materials for their main bodies, that is, ceramic for the Galaxy S III and liquid metal for iPhone5, both being thin, light and highly resistant to external impacts. The new phase of the rivalry is because neither one of them can get a decisive edge over the other solely with its OS and AP specifications, features or design.”

The website explains that the Samsung Galaxy S III will feature a ceramic body that will use silicon nitride making it extremely light and comfortable to grip. As far as the next iPhone is concerned, the website notes that it will be launched in June during the WWDC event and thereby again fanning the flames regarding the potential product launch date. They state, “iPhone 5 is likely to take liquid metal, an alloy of zirconium, titanium, nickel, copper and so forth having an outer surface smooth like liquid.”
