While Apple continues its fiery battle against Samsung, it now has one of its older foes, Motorola Mobility get into action, yet again. Popular mobile phone manufacturing brand, Motorola Mobility, reportedly filed a fresh lawsuit against Cupertino-based Apple, for having allegedly infringed on six of their patented technologies. With the Motorola Mobility - Google merger coming through, well almost, the battle for Apple has seemingly gone tough. Motorola Mobility, reportedly has Google's consent on this one. At U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, Motorola Mobility has filed a fresh lawsuit against Apple, stating that the latter have allegedly infringed on six of their patented technologies and coming in the line of fire is Apple's still relatively new, iPhone 4S and iCloud.

A post in Foss Patents sheds more light on the nature of the lawsuit, and the patents that invited it. Reportedly, all, but two, patent infringements in this case are targeted at the iPhone 4S. The remaining two are against the iCloud. As stated by Foss Patents, here's the list of infringed patents:

  • U.S. Patent No. 5,710,987 on a "receiver having concealed external antenna"
  • U.S. Patent No. 5,754,119 on a "multiple pager status synchronization system and method"
  • U.S. Patent No. 5,958,006 on a "method and apparatus for communicating summarized data"
  • U.S. Patent No. 6,101,531 on a "system for communicating user-selected criteria filter prepared at wireless client to communication server for filtering data transferred from host to said wireless client"
  • U.S. Patent No. 6,008,737 on an "apparatus for controlling utilization of software added to a portable communication device"
  • U.S. Patent No. 6,377,161 on a "method and apparatus in a wireless messaging system for facilitating an exchange of address information

It isn't unheard of that Motorola Mobility, which manufactures handsets running Google's Android software is currently, probably the toughest competition Apple iOS software has been facing. In fact, both Apple and Motorola have already been engaged in a lawsuit tiff, and the case, although quite far ahead, is still on. Motorola Mobility chose to file for a fresh lawsuit and not add it to the existing one, since its existing one is not in its beginning stages, anymore. Both Apple and Motorola have been battling it out for a while now. Just this month, we had reported about Apple losing an initial ruling against Motorola Mobility in an ITC ruling.
