Google I/O 2011: A New Android Market is Shown Off

12 May, 2011, 10:58 am IST | by Ashish Koshy | Smartphones

Apart from just making suggestions relevant to the desktop version of the Android Market, it looks like the actual Android Market for smartphones, as well as the web version is getting a major revamp.

Better looking than the previous one?!?

Better looking than the previous one?!?

As reported on IntoMobile, the app market sports a fresh new look with quite a few sections getting a facelift. The Top Paid and Top Free lists are supposed to be a little more comfortable to look at and there will be two more sections called Trending and Editor’s Choice. The Trending list will consist of apps that have been getting a lot of love from plenty of users around the world and this list is supposed to be dynamic. In the Editor’s Choice, someone from the Google HQ will recommend an app for you, so this will be something new to look out for.

From what we can see in the pictures, it certainly looks a lot more visually appealing. Alongside the icons, there’s some information of the app as well which will help users get a brief idea of what they’re downloading. Finally, the size limit for an app has been pushed to a whopping 4 GB from the current puny sized 50 MB. Obviously that’s a very huge increase, but looking at Tegra 2 powered smartphones in the making, it might just fit the bill.

Coming to the web version of the Android Market, the site has been re-arranged categorically with a Top Charts that has the same Top Free, Top Paid, etc. lists, adorning the left hand site of the site. Even the web-version has the Editor’s Choice and Trending Apps section.

Overall, Android users shouldn’t have much to complain about; at least for now.
