Hands on with the Sony Xperia Z

| by Roydon Cerejo | Smartphones

Sony only recently launched the Xperia Z in India and we were present at the launch event in Delhi, where we got to spend some time with the new phone. Along with the Xperia Z, Sony also launched the ZL, its younger sibling that will be devoid of the dust and water resistant coating but will cost a lot less. Here’s a little hands on with the Xperia Z showcasing some of its new UI features as well as putting its IP57 certification to the test.

Here are some of the specifications of the Sony Xperia Z to jog your memory:

  • 5-inch IPS LCD with a resolution of 1080 x 1920
  • LTE, 3G, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi hotspot
  • GPS with GLONASS and A-GPS
  • Bluetooth with A2DP
  • 13MP rear camera with LED flash and 2.2MP front camera
  • 16GB of internal storage and supports microSD card up to 32GB

Just like any high-end smartphone launched lately, we have a powerful Qualcomm quad-core CPU powering the handset along with a generous helping of 2GB of RAM. Sony has used a "shatter-proof" glass capable of withstanding drops without causing any damage to the screen. Despite its waterproof ability, the handset is surprisingly lightweight and slim as well. Finally, we have a 2330 mAh battery to keep the device going all day. We’ll be bringing you the full report soon, so stay tuned.

In the meantime, be sure to read our first impressions of the Sony Xperia Z.
