Higher-end HTC handsets to get ICS in 2012

| by Karan Shah | Smartphones

So, it seems that HTC’s evaluation period for ICS updates on their smartphones is finally over, as they’ve announced via their Facebook page that their higher-end range of handsets will receive Android 4.0. The devices will receive Ice Cream Sandwich in early 2012.

The statement by HTC reads, ‘HTC knows how excited our fans are to get their hands on Google's latest version of Android, Ice Cream Sandwich, so we're thrilled today to announce the first wave of HTC phones that will receive upgrades: We can confirm the brand new HTC Vivid is upgradeable to Ice Cream Sandwich. In addition, Ice Cream Sandwich is coming in early 2012 to a variety of devices including the HTC Sensation, HTC Sensation XL and HTC Sensation XE, as well as the HTC Rezound, HTC EVO 3D, HTC EVO Design 4G and HTC Amaze 4G through close integration with our carrier partners. We're continuing to assess our product portfolio, so stay tuned for more updates on device upgrades, timing and other details about HTC and Ice Cream Sandwich.’

Surprisingly, the HTC Desire HD hasn’t been included, but they’ve mentioned that they’re trying to get more updates on device upgrades and timings, so we’ll take their word on that. Also, the lower-end models like the Wildfire, Wildfire S, and the newly launched Explorer haven’t been mentioned in the list yet, so we can’t say whether they will or will not receive updates, but stay tuned to this space for more details.

If you’ve used any of Samsung’s flagships in the past, you’ll be right at home with the new S4. We quite liked the handset during our brief encounter with it a few weeks back and after using it for about a week, we have come to like it even more.
