HTC M7 shown off by CEO Peter Chou, details of M4 and G2 leaked

It seems the latest fad among CEOs of smartphone manufacturers is showing off their flagship phones at private events. The latest to join the list is HTC CEO Peter Chou, who showed off the forthcoming flagship handset, the HTC M7, at the company’s year-end celebrations.

A guest at the party has shot a video of the CEO yelling “HTC! HTC! M7! M7!”, imploring the rabid crowd to shout it back, concert style. While the video itself doesn’t give us a very clear look of the device, it does confirm the name of the phone.

Another video posted by Chinese news channel Next TV has another video showing Chou clicking pictures of the event using an M7. The device looks fairly slim and looks to have an aluminium back as opposed to the matte finish we have been seeing in leaked videos. It also shows off the other colour option of the device. The leaks so far have only shown the black version and this silver-grey version will be the second option.

The M7 is expected to have a 4.7-inch full HD screen with a 1920 x 1080 resolution. It will be powered by a 1.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor. It will come with Sense 5.0, HTC’s homegrown skin, which is expected to be lighter and more flatter in terms of UI design. It will have 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, LTE connectivity and a 13-megapixel camera with 1080p recording and an f/2.0 aperture. The M7 is rumoured to be announced on February 19 at an HTC event and will allegedly launch on March 8.

In other HTC-related news, Unwired View reports that the Taiwanese manufacturer will also be releasing the HTC M4 and G2 alongside the M7. Well-known smartphone insider @evleaks was the person behind the latest leaks.

These two will replace 2012’s HTC One S and HTC Desire C. The M4 has a 4.3-inch, 720p screen and is powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor. The M4 is expected to run Android 4.2 Jellybean at launch and will come with 2GB of RAM, just like the M7. Likewise, M4 is expected to carry a 13MP camera on the back. It will come with 16GB storage capacity.  The handset will likely feature the new version of HTC’s Sense UI and will be LTE-ready.

The G2 is decidedly low-end when compared to the M-series devices. It is possible that HTC might change the name of the handset as it already has a handset with that retail name. The reported specs are a 3.5-inch HVGA display, 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage. A 5MP camera graces the back, but the OS version will allegedly be Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
