HTC offering replacements for One S with coating issues

| by Aaron Almeida | Smartphones

HTC is hard at work in pushing the One X in India and rightfully so. The flagship handset from the One series was recently reviewed by us and had done well overall. To check out our detailed review of the high end flagship smartphone from the One series, hit the link here. At the time of the announcement at the Mobile World Congress, along with the HTC One X, the brand had also introduced the One V and One S. HTC so far has launched only the One X and One V in India with the One S yet to make an entry into the Indian market. Even though this handset has just been launched, a number of users already have some complaints regarding it. As per a report a couple a of days ago by MoDaCo, the author notes that after using the phone for some time he noticed that the black coating of the handset appeared to be chipped and in the process revealing the metal underneath. He goes on to state that this issue is only present on the black version of the One S. He states, “It does seem a problem with the 'micro arc oxidation' coating that is on the black One S and not the grey device.”

HTC One S

HTC One S issues are isolated ones

As per a report by The Verge, HTC has responded to these complaints by stating, “HTC is committed to delivering a high quality product and great experience for all our customers. There have been a few, isolated reports of this issue. The finish on the One S was laboratory tested as being at a hardness similar to ceramic. While that's hard, it doesn't mean it's impossible to damage. Regardless, HTC takes quality very seriously and are providing all customers with an immediate fix and we are implementing some small changes to ensure customers do not experience this issue in the future.”

This immediate fix comes in the form of returning the handset to the store where it was purchased from and getting it replaced within the DOA period. This period is usually around 30 days after the date of purchase.

Though this handset has not yet been launched in India, If anyone does face this isolated issue then they can merely return it and get their handset replaced.
