Huawei may debut Ascend Mate, Ascend D2 and W1 at CES 2013

| by Aaron Almeida | Smartphones

Huawei is all set to debut a trio of handsets at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show 2013. A report by Unwired View claims that the smartphone manufacturer will finally unveil its Windows Phone 8 handset, the W1 alongside a duo of phablets– the Ascend Mate and the Ascend D2.

This is not the first time we have heard of any of the handsets and prior to the official launch of the Windows Phone 8 platform, Huawei was expected to debut the W1 at the Microsoft event. Since this did not happen, the company is now believed to showcase its first Windows Phone 8 device at the major electronics event this month.

Apart from running on the Windows Phone 8 platform, the Ascend W1 will also feature specifications such as a 1.2GHz dual core processor with a 2000mAh battery. The handset, like other Windows Phone 8 handsets from Nokia and HTC, will also come in various colours. The Huawei W1 will launch in colours such as white, black, blue and red.

Another offering from Huawei will be the 6.1-inch phablet, the Ascend Mate. This handset will feature a 720p display and will be the first handset in the world to have such a large screen. The handset is also believed to be packing a 3800mAh battery that will keep the device juiced up.

Last but definitely not the least; the brand is also believed to officially unveil the Huawei Ascend D2. This handset will compete with the likes of the HTC Butterfly and like; it will sport a 5-inch 1080p display. Other features of the handset include a 1.5GHz quad-core processor and a 13 megapixel camera. All in all, these are handsets to definitely watch out for at the Consumer Electronics Show 2013.

Over the last year, Huawei has stepped up its game and has launched handsets with impressive specifications. Pricing of its devices is a key factor for the success of Huawei. If the brand prices these handsets well below its competitors, it may create a significant impact in the smartphone market. However, the company should launch these handsets at an appropriate time frame and not wait too long as it has done in the past. This has allowed the competition to get a heady momentum over Huawei, even though the company does launch handsets that have similar enough specifications.

Late last month, Huawei’s Chairman of Devices, Richard Yu, popped into a Huawei store in Guangzhou, China and showed off the Ascend Mate, a 6.1-inch smartphone. It is rumoured that the Huawei Ascend Mate features a 1.8GHz quad-core HiSilicon K3V3 processor, but as of now, this feature has not been verified and we shall know more in the near future. Wu stated that this handset features an LTPS type display, which may mean that it has a low temperature polysilicon.

If you’ve used any of Samsung’s flagships in the past, you’ll be right at home with the new S4. We quite liked the handset during our brief encounter with it a few weeks back and after using it for about a week, we have come to like it even more.
