Hydrogen powered smartphone from Apple in the works

Any piece of technology is deemed intelligent, especially in today's age and time when it manages to deliver what it has to without leaving carbon footprint. Apple has a similar proposal in mind. The Telegraph confirms that the two documents submitted by Apple to the U.S Patent and Trademark Office with its patent ideas indicate hydrogen powered smartphones in the works. Precisely, Apple's latest patent plans will eliminate "the need for a bulky and heavy battery", which, needless to say will lead to lighter smartphones.

The merits of hydrogen powered technology is no secret. Typically, a hydrogen fuel cell converts hydrogen and oxygen into water and electrical energy. The two patents that Apple has submitted to the U.S Patent and Trademark Office are - Fuel Cell System to Power a Portable Computing Device and Fuel Cell System Coupled to a Portable Computing Device.

The report further quoted Apple as saying, "Such fuel cells and associated fuels can potentially achieve high volumetric and gravimetric energy densities, which can potentially enable continued operation of portable electronic devices for days or even weeks without refuelling."

Also, with talks about being 'environment friendly' going on in all spheres, replacing toxic batteries with hydrogen makes for a sensible choice.
