iBall expands Android line-up with new Andi phones

| by Karan Shah | Smartphones

Android has become the favoured operating system for a lot of the local manufacturers in India and joining the party with their latest smartphones is iBall. The company had earlier launched the Andi 2 and now they have followed that up with a new series of phones. The company has launched two new products in the series, the Andi 3e and 4d.

The Andi 3e

The Andi 3e

The Andi 3e comes with a breathing light, which is located under the four capacitive touch buttons. This breathing light glows with multiple colours and can be set to glow as per the users wish for different functions, like incoming call, SMS or music. The Andi 3e smartphone runs on Android version 2.3.5 Gingerbread. The phone comes with a front camera for video calling on 3G networks and Wi-Fi and a full capacitive 3.2 inch touchscreen. The Andi 3e will come with a dual-SIM standby option, among other features. The main specs, however include a 650 MHz processor, along with connectivity options that include Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS and GPRS. Other specs include a 3.2 megapixel camera and 16GB microSD card support.

The Andi 4d

The Andi 4d

The other phone that has been announced is the Andi 4d, which packs in most of the above features along with a 1GHz processor, a 5MP camera and a 4-inch display. The display itself may make it an interesting device for watching movies on the go. The common factors behind both of these phones, include - their dual-SIM facility, 3G capability and front-facing camera for video calling. Both these phones also include a G-sensor, proximity sensor and a light sensor.

The first phone, the Andi 3e is priced at Rs. 6,990, while the Andi 4d comes in just a bit higher at Rs. 9,490. Looking at the current range of phones in the market, these new entrants by iBall are going to have a tough time competing with the other manufacturers. At present, manufacturers like Samsung, Micromax, LG, Spice, Lava all have handsets in the sub-10k mark, so there’s no dearth of competition. Sony’s Live with Walkman is an interesting device hovering around the 10k mark as well, and it will receive Ice Cream Sandwich. The one thing that can set these devices apart from the other handsets is the build quality and the interface. If Spice have managed to get the devices running slick and fast, then we may have an interesting battle in the sub-10k genre.

 7.0

We’ve already established that the Lumia 720 is Nokia’s best effort as far as Windows Phone 8 handsets go. This could soon change once the Lumia 925 hits markets, but as it stands now, the Lumia 720 offers the best blend of features and performance, wrapped in a beautiful package that’s quite affordable.
