Idea's Dual-SIM Android smartphone priced at Rs. 5,994, launching today

Idea’s new Dual-SIM Android smartphone is launching later today, but pricing, other specs and details about the smartphone are already up on the Telecom operator’s site. It’s called the Idea ID 918 and the phone comes with a 3.2-inch TFT WVGA capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels, as mentioned on the company’s website (which is quite awesome, if it’s indeed true). The phone comes with a G sensor and a proximity sensor and is a Dual-SIM (GSM + GSM) handset. The ID 918 runs on Android Gingerbread 2.3. It’s a 3G capable handset with HSDPA at 7.2 Mbps and HSUPA at 5.76 Mbps. Connectivity options, include 3G, EDGE/ GPRS, Wi-FI, microUSB 2.0, Bluetooth and GPS. Other specs include 150 MB of internal storage, 512 MB of RAM and microSD card slot expandable up to 32GB. The phone also has a back camera with a 3.2 megapixel sensor and packs a 1300 mAh Li-ion battery under the hood. As part of the deal, the company is also offering 3G benefits worth Rs. 2,340. The smartphone is also available on online site, Flipkart. 

The ID 918

The handset is priced at Rs. 5,994 and though it may not have killer specs, it does seem to have a killer price. We've seen another low-end Android smartphone with a similar price range – the Spice Mi-280 and even though it did have certain tradeoffs, it blew the other feature phones out of the water, because of its brilliant usability and smartphone status. The Idea ID 918 seems to be built with the same perspective in mind – the pricing being the prime USP of the product. However, it’s important to note that the ID 918 comes with a 3.2-inch screen, whereas our current favourite in the 5k genre was a 2.8-inch screen,. That may well be the one factor that could make the ID 918 a better product to buy. The phone will be launching soon, so we’ll keep you updated on the rest of the specs.
