Images of the Sony Xperia U surfaces again

| by Aaron Almeida | Smartphones

The pre-event curse for Sony has struck, yet again and this time around it comes in the form of images, which surfaced belonging to Sony’s, still unannounced Xperia U aka Kumquat smartphone. Sony had a difficult time earlier this year, at CES, where none of the handsets that were announced came as big surprises to the masses. It appears that at the Mobile World Congress event slated for the end of this month will be no different. The only thing going for Sony was that the handsets that were announced got unveiled under the Sony-only moniker, as opposed to Sony Ericsson. However, with that cat already out of the bag it appears the brand has nothing to keep secret, come MWC. The latest leak comes courtesy of DataCider, who have obtained images from IT168, about the Sony Xperia U handset.

The website has also spilled the beans on what to expect from this smartphone, once it is announced. The handset Xperia U, which goes by the codename ST25i has been snapped alongside the Sony Xperia S and judging by the specifications on offer it appears that this will not be in the same price range as the latter and will instead be priced lower. As for the specifications, DataCider states that the handset will run Android 2.3 Gingerbread at the time of launch but will be upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich shortly thereafter.

Here is a look at the features of what may feature in the Sony Xperia U:

  • Android 2.3 Gingerbread
  • 3.5-inch FWVGA Reality display with a Bravia Engine
  • features a resolution of 854 × 480
  • 1GHz dual-core processor
  • Rear Exmor R sensor that is capable of 720p video recording
  • Front camera
  • MicroUSB
  • 1290mAh battery

As of now these are the only details present and this is shaping up to be a handset to look forward to, especially, since it is borrowing a lot from the Sony Xperia S, at least designwise. Another notable mention is the branding featured here and since Sony handsets do not include the Ericsson branding, anymore; we can assume that the final product will feature a Sony logo.
