Intex to Launch Rs. 5,500 Android Phone

| by Sriram Gurunathan | Smartphones

Remember when Intex Mobiles launched their projector phones, or when they ran a full-scale van campaign? Well it looks like they’ve switched gears and have taken it up another notch, as they plan to launch an Android-based Smartphone priced at Rs. 5,500.

"We will launch an Android 2.2 phone in the first week of February and it will priced at around Rs 5,500," said Sudhir Kumar, Assistant General Manager of the Telecom Division at Intex to Telecom Yatra. The phone is expected to have a 3.2 Megapixel camera, a 2.8-inch resistive touchscreen, Wi-Fi and GPS and will compete with the Micromax A60. The smartphone is set to release in February.

India's cheapest Android phone

Going back to the topic of the V Show projector phones, Intex plans to launch four more models in the range, according to Kumar. He added that the new models will support Office applications, which will supposedly be a major boon to professionals. Finally, he went on to say “People who want to watch movies, videos, picture galleries and even read e books on their mobile phones will also find some interesting applications in the new model.”

This is some seriously awesome news. While we love the fact that more and more people will now have access to Android, we obviously can’t tell right now if the phone will deliver. Guess we can only wait until February to find out.

If you’ve used any of Samsung’s flagships in the past, you’ll be right at home with the new S4. We quite liked the handset during our brief encounter with it a few weeks back and after using it for about a week, we have come to like it even more.
