Our sources seem to be hinting that RIM will be launching their highly anticipated Bold Touch 9900, as early as this month. The phone has not yet been launched globally, so BlackBerry is probably gearing up for a worldwide launch. This is just one of the seven new smartphones the company will be launching in the months to come. There’s no official word on the pricing, just yet, but we're putting it in the Rs. 31,000 to Rs. 33,000 bracket given the device's specifications and features. Coming Soon...
The Bold Touch 9900 will be bundled with BlackBerry OS 7, which is RIM’s latest version of the system. The 2.8-inch screen will sport 640 x 480 pixels. It's a capacitive touch screen, making the 9900 a handset of the touch and type variety. The standard QWERTY keyboard looks classic RIM style and although the Torch 9800 (retailing for about Rs. 27,000) could be considered their first dual input styled device, the 9900 has taken a slightly different route. In terms of storage, the 9900 will come with 8GB onboard that’s expandable to 32GB via microSD cards. The 5MP autofocus shooter can record 720p video, but it doesn't seem to have any front-facing camera for video calling. Other features include NFC support, Docs to Go, BlackBerry maps, etc. Powering all this will be a 1.2GHz processor, which is plenty for a screen this size.
RIM has never been afraid to try something new in terms of design form, however their regular candy-bar QWERTY styled devices haven't really taken on any overly exciting new shape. Of course, the company has managed to provision their newer high-end devices with all thinigs relevant and it seems like the Bold 9900 will be no exception. Stay tuned to this space for more updates on the 9900 and its India debut. |
