Karbonn Smart A111 available online before launch for Rs 10,290

| by Shunal Doke | Smartphones

In a strange turn of events, Karbonn’s next phone, the Smart A111, is currently available for purchase online. This is strange because the company is yet to even announce the phone, let alone release it. Flipkart states that the phone is available now for Rs 10,290, and a delivery time of 7-8 days is given.

Much like other Indian smartphones, the Smart A111 has dual-SIM capability. It is powered by a dual-core 1.2 GHz Scorpion processor and has 512MB of RAM. It runs on Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box. The sensors on the phone include an ambient light sensor, a G-sensor and a proximity sensor. The phone is equipped with a giant 2100mAh battery. It also features a secondary front-facing camera.

Here are the highlighted features of the Karbonn Smart A111:

  • 5-inch touch screen
  • 3G, EDGE/GPRS, Wi-Fi
  • GPS
  • Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP
  • 5 megapixel camera with auto focus, burst mode and face detection
  • 4GB of internal memory expandable via microSD up to 32GB

The phone comes with Skype, Facebook, Yahoo, NexGTv, PayTM and WhatsApp pre-installed, along with the standard Google Apps, including the Play Store and Google Talk.

Back in January, Karbonn stated that the S1 Titanium would be selling at Rs 10,990, which makes it one of the cheapest quad-core smartphones in India. The S1 Titanium's pricing gives it a major advantage against its rival's offering, the Micromax A116. While the A116 has slightly better specs, there is a major difference between their prices, which gives the advantage to Karbonn's device.

Sporting a 4.5-inch capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 540 x 960 pixels, the S1 Titanium is a dual-SIM smartphone. It has a 5 megapixel auto-focus camera with LED Flash. On the storage front, it has 4GB of internal memory and supports microSD cards up to 32GB in size. From what we've seen of it, the device looks good and quite handy, measuring 66 x 134.6 x 9.25 mm. It equips a 1600mAh battery that the company claims will provide 200 hours of standby time and up to four hours of talk time. The connectivity options include support for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

The recently launched 3G-enabled Micromax A116, which may well steal the thunder of Samsung’s Galaxy Grand, is powered by a MediaTek MT6589 1.2GHz quad-core processor, with 1GB RAM. It also runs on Android Jelly Bean 4.1 and comes equipped with a 2100mAh battery. It has a bigger 5-inch IPS display and an 8 megapixel rear camera with LED flash and multiple camera settings such as night mode and 4X zoom. With Indian phone makers prepping to bring affordable smartphones with superior phones, consumers in a price sensitive market like ours are in a win-win situation.
