Latest Version of Gingerbread Might Bring Video Chat

| by Ashish Koshy | Smartphones

Google’s I/O Developer’s Conference this year hasn’t generated too much of speculations but it looks all set to change. It looks like Google might unveil the latest version of Gingerbread – v 2.3.4 to be precise, at the conference being held next month.

According to AndroidPolice, a tweet by @MAFiA303 says that the person tried a video call on the Nexus S. Apparently, the tweeter is working with Samsung (according to his status) and finds the video call to be of an “Impressive Quality”.

While we might not consider a simple update of the firmware as a very big development, in a way it’s not too bad either. Video calls will be a very nice addition to the OS and can help keep Android smartphones running in the fore-front of the smartphone race. It’s not too long for the conference to get underway so let’s hope we get some more juicy rumors of any such developments.

We’ve already established that the Lumia 720 is Nokia’s best effort as far as Windows Phone 8 handsets go. This could soon change once the Lumia 925 hits markets, but as it stands now, the Lumia 720 offers the best blend of features and performance, wrapped in a beautiful package that’s quite affordable.
