LG Optimus 2X to get ICS update in Korea

Last year, LG announced the Optimus 2X and it even earned a place in the Guinness World Records as the world’s first Dual Core Smartphone to officially make it to shelves for the general public. Since then, owners of the smartphone have been left in the dark whether their devices will be treated with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The latest bit of information, should please Korean users as LG has tweeted that the LG Optimus 2X will receive the Ice Cream Sandwich update.

According to a report by GSMArena, “LG Optimus 2X users must be getting sea sick of all the back and forth - LG committed to upgrading its former flagship to Android 4.0 ICS nearly a year ago, then there was a delay and then LG Canada tweeted that the update just won't happen.” It goes on to state that it could be just the Canadian users of the smartphone who would not receive the update. With this tweet by LG, we know that at least in Korea, the Optimus 2X users will receive an upgrade to Android 4.0.

International users may finally get ICS on their Optimus 2X

The report goes on to state, “The ICS update for the Optimus 2X was targeted at some time in Q3, so LG still has a month and a half. It seems that the LG Optimus 3D P920 will also be getting in on the ICS update action, but we couldn’t find a reference to the Optimus Black (which was also denied an update by LG Canada).”

As of now there is no official word regarding the rest of the world receiving the upgrade, but in a related report by Engadget, LG contacted it stating, “for now, that tweet only refers to Korean availability.”

The Optimus 2X, earlier known as the Star, has a bunch of other cool features as mentioned below:

The LG Optimus 2X is currently discontinued in India and if one is really desperate to get it, they can try to purchase it oline for a price of Rs. 19,990.

We had reviewed the LG Optimus 2X and we felt that at the time it seemed like a great choice all things considered. It does has quite a bit to offer even if it does lack a little in a few areas.
