LG Optimus G available online for Rs 30,990

Can’t wait for LG's February 27 event, where the company may announce the Optimus G for India? Well, you can get ahead in the queue by ordering the smartphone now: an online retailer has put the phone up for grabs at Rs 30,990, and is promising a delivery time of three days. That is an amazing price point for a device featuring a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor and a 4.7-inch 720p display.

Features an interesting new UX

The Optimus G has a quad-core processor and a 720p display

The Snapdragon S4 Pro processor has four cores clocked at 1.5GHz and is widely regarded as one of the fastest smartphone CPUs available at the moment. The Optimus G also comes with 2GB of RAM.

Besides that top-of-the-line processor, LG has infused the 4.7-inch True HD-IPS + LCD capacitive touchscreen with Zerogap Touch technology, which makes the entire phone thinner and puts the interface closer to the user’s fingers. The display has a resolution of 1280 x 768 pixels, which is more than enough for most tasks. This lends the screen a pixel density of 318PPI, which means you won’t be seeing individual pixels unless you peer at the display through a microscope. Then there’s Gorilla Glass on top to keep the screen from getting scratched to a certain extent.

LG, which announced the phone last year, also worked with Google to base the Nexus 4 on the Optimus G’s hardware, and the two phones boast of similar specs, so much so that when the Nexus 4 was out of stock after the initial launch, a hack enabled users to 'convert' the Optimus G into a Nexus 4 by swapping every LG-developed software element with its stock Android 4.2 Jelly Bean counterpart.

However, the Optimus G has a better, 13 megapixel camera, whereas the Nexus 4 has an 8 megapixel one. Also, LG apparently forgot to equip the Nexus 4 with an LTE chip, which the Optimus G boasts of.

There is a front-facing camera of the 1.3-megapixel variety as well. A top of the line phone wouldn’t be the same without a healthy battery, and the LG Optimus G is powered by a 2100mAh Lithium polymer battery, which lasts longer than other batteries in the same class. The touted talk time of the phone is 15 hours, while the stand-by time is said to be around 330 hours.

Here’s a roundup of some of the key specifications of the LG Optimus G:

  • 4.7-inch True HD IPS+ touchscreen with a 1280 × 768 resolution (15:9 aspect ratio)
  • HSDPA, HSUPA, LTE, GPRS/EDGE
  • Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, dual-band, Wi-Fi Direct, DLNA, Wi-Fi hotspot
  • Bluetooth 4.0 with A2DP
  • MicroUSB with USB host support, MHL link through USB
  • 13 megapixel autofocus rear camera with LED flash and 1.3 megapixel front camera
  • 32GB internal storage

The phone runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and will come with LG’s customised Optimus UI 3.0 on top.

If you’ve used any of Samsung’s flagships in the past, you’ll be right at home with the new S4. We quite liked the handset during our brief encounter with it a few weeks back and after using it for about a week, we have come to like it even more.
