LG set to introduce their next generation smartphone in India

| by Aaron Almeida | Smartphones

The year 2012 has seen the introduction of smartphones with quad-core processors, and in turn, the beginning of a new phase in mobile technology. We have already witnessed the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S III and the HTC One X in India, both handsets featuring quad-core processors. These handsets have done really well in the Indian market and have set the benchmark for smartphones. One may wonder when the competition would enter the fray and try to claim a share of the spotlight from these brands. With LG having an event this evening, the brand could unveil their quad-core offering, the Optimus 4X HD, a handset which is yet to make an entrance in India.

Looking good...the phone!

The LG Optimus 4X HD may be announced today in India

The Optimus 4X HD is the first quad-core handset from LG. It runs on the Android 4.0 OS (Ice Cream Sandwich). This handset features a quad-core NVIDIA 1.5GHz Tegra 3 processor, which is by far, the smartphone’s most highlighted feature. Coming at a time when bigger displays on smartphones are better, this model comes equipped with a 4.7 inch True HD IPS display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. With this display on board, users can expect to achieve great viewing angles that are especially beneficial during video or game playback.

As for storage, the LG Optimus 4X HD comes loaded with 16 GB of internal memory, and a MicroSD card that expands the available storage to 32GB. The handset features an 8 MP primary camera that can capture images at a resolution of 3264 x 2448 pixels. This camera also has abilities such as autofocus and an LED flash. The primary camera can record videos in Full HD 1080p at 30 frames per second (fps). This model also features a 1.3 MP front facing camera that can be used for video calls.

Here is a quick look at some of the highlighted features of the LG Optimus 4X HD:

  • 4.7 inch True HD IPS display with a 1280 x 720 pixel resolution
  • 1.5 GHz quad-core processor (NVIDIA Tegra 3)
  • 16 GB memory, 1GB LP DDR2 RAM
  • 8 megapixel BSI Sensor (Rear), 1.3 megapixel front camera
  • Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
  • 2,150 mAh battery

The handset is pretty slim as well, measuring 8.9 mm at its thinnest point. In terms of thickness, the LG Optimus 4X HD and the HTC One X are the same. The Samsung Galaxy S III is slightly thinner, measuring 8.6 mm at its thinnest. The handset is by no means chunky and fits comfortably in the hand.

With Samsung and HTC currently dominating the Android smartphone market with their quad-core handsets, it is about time the competition stepped up. Hopefully, the LG Optimus 4X HD packs as much punch as expected. With the event right around the corner, we may see the introduction of this handset and possibly a range of other smartphones as well.

 7.0

We’ve already established that the Lumia 720 is Nokia’s best effort as far as Windows Phone 8 handsets go. This could soon change once the Lumia 925 hits markets, but as it stands now, the Lumia 720 offers the best blend of features and performance, wrapped in a beautiful package that’s quite affordable.
