While we told you of how the LG Star might be carrying a dual core CPU and the phone appearing in a sneak peek , Engadget got their hands on the phone before launch and have put up a preview. The diagnostic screens and the missing lockscreen show that the phone they got was a test piece. Nevertheless, they ran the LG Star through a complete set of benchmarks and found the results to be amazing enough to put any of the current smartphones to shame in terms of performance. Apart from the processor’s performance, the phone scored well in terms of design and looks as well. Starry Background LG Star has a 4-inch display with a 800 x 480 resolution. The blacks were not very beautiful, suggesting that the LG Star doesn’t have an AMOLED screen but can be viewed from different angles and is a lot better than those LCD screens that you get to see everyday. The phone has small openings at the bottom (ahem!) meant for input and output of sound. The previewer felt that the single speaker situated at the back of the phone sounded loud and coupled with the display, makes the phone capable of providing a wholesome multimedia experience. The phone was not playing videos of any type so there is no word on video playback. Look Ma, HDMI! They couldn’t comment on the software as it still was in its testing phase which was quite evident when the lockscreen was playing hide-and-seek with them. On the whole, the software looks good, but has a chance of getting better in case the OS gets updated to Gingerbread by the time it starts selling. 8 Megapixel camera, yeah The site carries a comparison video pitting LG Star’s CPU against the likes of Moto Droid X 2.2, HTC Evo, Samsung Galaxy S and the Nexus One, resulting in the Star surpassing all the other phones by a mile! Considering the phone is just a prototype, the finished product should be a lot more refined and should be one of the best handsets to come out of LG’s stables. |
