Micromax launches Superfone A80 Infinity

| by Karan Shah | Smartphones

Micromax Informatics Limited has launched the latest member of their Superfone series, the A80 Infinity, which boasts of a powerful, long lasting battery. According to the company, the battery provides a talk time of seven hours and standby time for a period of 12 days, but we’re guessing real world stats will differ. It’s important to note that Micromax had earlier created a new sub-category of phones with powerful, long-lasting batteries when it launched its first phone, the X1i, which boasted of a standby time of over a month. That was way back in the year 2008. With the A80, Micromax is again aiming to recreate that magic in its Superfone portfolio.

The Micromax A80 is specifically designed for smartphone users who often complain of running out of battery due to heavy usage. The A80 Infinity features a 9.525 cm full touch screen and runs on Android 2.3.4 (Gingerbread). The device is equipped with a 2500 mAh Li-ion battery, providing a standby time of 288 hours and a talk time of seven hours from a single charge. This dual SIM phone is powered by an 800 MHz processor, which may be one of the reasons for the extended battery life. The phone sports a 5.0 MP camera with LED flash, and connectivity options include the usual Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, et al. The camera comes with multiple settings such as night vision setting, multi-shot option, camera sensors and multiple video recording formats. The phone also sports a 0.3 MP front-facing camera which can be used for video calling as the device is 3G-compatible too. The phone supports a microSD card that can be expanded up to 32GB.

Here are some of the key features of the Micromax A80 Infinity

  • 3.75-inch screen
  • Android 2.3.4 (Gingerbread)
  • 800MHz processor
  • Dual-SIM capable (3G enabled)
  • Microsoft Aisha built in
  • Camera (rear): 5MP with flash
  • Camera (front): 0.3MP
  • Bluetooth and Wi-Fi enabled
  • microSD card slot (exapandable to upto 32GB)
  • 2500mAh Li-ion battery (claimed talk time battery life - 7 hours, standby time - 12 days)

The Micromax A80 comes with the voice recognition tool AISHA, that we had reviewed in the A50 as well. AISHA helps users to update social networking sites, figure out phone status, operate the device, find locations, know horoscopes, make language translations, view recipes and inquire date, time and weather conditions. AISHA may not be an award-winning feature but that’s what voice recognition has on offer at present. The A80 provides the users with access to a plethora of apps such as Mibuddy, Mstore, TOI, etc.

The Superfone A80 Infinity is available for Rs.8,490 at all leading retail outlets across India. In related news, Micromax has been rated the 12th largest handset manufacturer in the world according to the Global Handset Vendor Market Share report from Strategy Analytics, which is definitely encouraging news for the company.
