Microsoft Rumored to be in Plans of Buying RIM

| by Anuradha Shetty | Smartphones

The news wires are fuelled with speculations of a possible buyout of popular smartphone maker, Research in Motion (RIM) by software giant, Microsoft.

Speculations got stronger mainly after Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer was spotted at the recently concluded BlackBerry World Conference. Analysts worldwide have gotten down to joining the dots on the uncertain picture. Just recently, RIM launched its much awaited PlayBook tablet. RIM, however, delivered what the critics called as a ‘half baked’ product, thereby heavily disappointing all the hopefuls.

Next came on RIM’s steadily dipping shares which seemed to be just the thing that acted as fuel to the whole speculation fire. Microsoft Inc., analysts believe will be able to gain the consumer base that RIM had accumulated whilst its popularity in the smartphone space, not so long ago. This move will also earn Microsoft some brownie points it so also badly needs since it’s now trying to establish itself firmly in the mobile space, and having a RIM on its side may make it a lot easier. Despite indulging in self-pity, RIM does make for a very viable contender for a possible buy-out by Microsoft.
