| by tech2 News Staff | Smartphones

Minecraft, one of the best indie games to release in quite some time, is now making its way on to Xperia Play.

Its was all a joke...

Now brings you Minecraft

In a chat with Gamasutra, Minecraft developer Mojang revealed that the game will be a timed exclusive on the Sony Ericsson smartphone and will soon be available for other phones, as well. The Android version of Minecraft will be tweaked in order to take advantage of the Xperia Play’s PlayStation-style buttons.

"When playing on smartphones you will have a different screen size compared to the PC, different hardware, different attention spans and thus the game needs to be customized to fit the mobile specifications.

For those who have not played Minecraft (you should), the game centers around cubical blocks which can be used to build anything the player wants to. These cubical blocks represent different materials like stone, water, dirt etc. The player is placed on an flat empty surface and is given a tools which can be used to create more proficient items and thus begin the building process.

The developers have not yet announced a release date or given a price on the mobile version of Minecraft, but have stated that they will have more information at a Minecraft-themed E3 Media Event.
