MWC 2011: Sonim Announces XP3300 FORCE for Rugged Field Operatives

Sonim has been in business of making handsets specifically for those with an active outdoor lifestyle for a long time. At MWC 2011 held in Barcelona Spain, the company announced yet another addition to their hardcore handset line up – the XP3300 FORCE.

The FORCE is a GSM handset that’s ultra-rugged and is designed to help enterprises and government organizations locate, track and manage mobile workers, their tasks and assets. The USP of this device is to maximize workforce efficiency, minimize downtime and enhance safety in industries such as transportation, logistics and utilities.

Totally hardcore

The handset has been tried and testing in a variety of conditions like submerging it in an antifreeze mixture, dropping it from 30 meters and they’ve even gone as far as to cast in concrete. The FORCE is equipped with professional-grade Assisted GPS 20 to 24 hours of talk time or GPS tracking time of up to 26 hours with MRM (Marketing Resource Management) applications. It comes with a 2MP camera with an LED flash. It supports Java apps and features the Sonim JAVA Application Manager (JAM) store for acquiring additional apps when required.



The company’s goal is to provide companies with employees always in the field with a solution that’s not just reliable technologically but physically as well. Apps that help with workforce location monitoring, fleet tracking, monitoring, timecard reporting, real-time work order updates, alerts, job scheduling, event confirmation, data collection and reports are all part of the devices feature set. Other apps like Opera Mini browser and City Cruiser navigation, NoteVault (a voice note transcription and project-reporting tool designed for the construction industry?) are also available.

The FORCE meets the military specifications for ruggedness. This IP-68 rated, water and dust proof handset can even survive under 2 meters of. The 2-inch display is protected by a c 1.5 mm thick Corning Gorilla Glass lens keeping it scratch free. Sonim has added a fiberglass to the handset’s shell to make it even more durable and user friendly. The phone is certified against salt, fog, humidity, transport shock, and thermal shock and operates in temperatures ranging from -20°C to +55°C. It’s even got an active noise canceling microphone and loud audio with a 23mm speaker, protected by a GORE protective vent.

The XP3300 FORCE is backed by Sonim's 3-Year Comprehensive Warranty. The price of the device hasn’t been announced yet.
