New BlackBerry Aristo may sport quad-core CPU, 2GB RAM

| by Ramkumar Iyer | Smartphones

This week is turning out to be quite exciting for BlackBerry fans. We reported on Monday about a leaked specs sheet for a touchscreen only BlackBerry device named Laguna, and now we have our hands on another leak concerning a new device, the BlackBerry ‘Aristo’. Boasting a Qualcomm Krait quad core processor and a large 4.65-inch touchscreen display, the Aristo’s specifications, if true, suggest that it’s going to be leagues apart from the L-Series Laguna.

The BlackBerry Aristo, according to the leaked specs sheet first noticed by Rapidberry, has specifications quite superior to that of the Laguna or London devices. It is 136mm tall, 68mm wide and 8.85 mm in depth, and will be an all-touch device, just like the Laguna is purported to be. Powered by the Qualcomm APQ8064 Krait Quad Core processor clocked at 1.5GHz, the Aristo will sport 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage and will support microSD cards of up to 16GB. Apart from the usual features such as Wi-Fi and GPS, the Aristo will have NFC, Bluetooth 4.0, and up to 4 microphones for noise reduction. Another interesting feature the leaked specs sheet claims the Aristo will have is the inclusion of a 2,800mAh battery, which, sadly, is said to be sealed by a non-removable door.

The Aristo sports some serious specs; BB fans should pray this is the real thing.

The device’s 4.65-inch display sports a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels and will have an aspect ratio of 16:9. Interestingly, the Aristo’s display will be made out of Samsung’s OCTA display-on-cell touch active-matrix light-emitting diode (AMOLED), which integrates the touch sensor onto the display itself, rather than fabricating the sensor on a separate glass substrate and then laminating it onto the display. Much like the display on the Apple iPhone 5, this display does away with the glass substrate, thus reducing the overall weight and thickness of the device. This technology is also purported to increase touch performance and response via a multi-sensor input capability that enables gesture recognition.

Here is a quick look at the leaked specs of the BlackBerry Aristo:

  • 4.65-inch capacitive OCTA Glass OLED touchscreen with a resolution of 1280 x 720 and 335 ppi.
  • LTE, GSM, WCDMA, 3G, 2G, EDGE, dual-band Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi hot spot, NFC, DLNA.
  • GPS with A-GPS support.
  • Bluetooth v 4.0.
  • 8-megapixel Autofocus camera with flash, 2-megapixel front camera, 1080p video recording at 30FPS.
  • 16 GB of in-built storage with microSD card support up to 16GB.
  • microUSB port, microHDMI out.

The BlackBerry Laguna, whose specs sheet was leaked earlier this week, is supposedly making its way to Verizon, and its specs sheet looks like it is the CDMA version of the BlackBerry London. According to the leaked sheet, Laguna will run on a Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8960 processor and will have 1GB of RAM. The phone will be 130mm tall, 65mm wide, and 9mm in depth, and will sport a 4.2-inch capacitive touchscreen at a resolution of 1280 x 768 pixels with a very impressive pixel density of 335ppi and a 16:9 aspect ratio. Aside from standard features such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS, the device will purportedly have NFC and will be powered by an 1800mAh removable battery.

 7.0

We’ve already established that the Lumia 720 is Nokia’s best effort as far as Windows Phone 8 handsets go. This could soon change once the Lumia 925 hits markets, but as it stands now, the Lumia 720 offers the best blend of features and performance, wrapped in a beautiful package that’s quite affordable.
