| by Karan Shah | Smartphones

The exclusive partnership between Nokia and popular lens maker, Carl Zeiss that resulted in some of the industry’s best camera smartphones - Nokia N8 and the Nokia 808 PureView to name a few, has been extended. “Carl Zeiss was a crucial partner in the creation of the first PureView experience,” said Jo Harlow, executive vice president of Nokia Smart Devices. “The benefits of our ongoing collaboration will be more PureView innovation and further advancements in smartphone imaging in coming months and years.

The Nokia 808 PureView, which will start rolling out, this month, combines high-performance Carl Zeiss optics with Nokia developed algorithms and a super-high resolution (at a whopping 41 megapixels) sensor to set a new standard in high-end smartphone imaging. The Nokia 808 PureView features a large, high-resolution 41 megapixel sensor with high-performance Carl Zeiss optics and new pixel oversampling technology. Standard resolutions (2/3, 5 and 8 megapixels) mean the ability to zoom without loss of clarity and capture seven pixels of information, condensing into one pixel for the sharpest images imaginable, at present in a camera phone. High-resolution (38 megapixels maximum) means the ability to capture an image, then zoom, reframe, crop and resize afterwards to expose previously unseen levels of details. With superior low-light performance and the ability to save in compact file sizes for sharing in e-mail, MMS, and on social networks, the Nokia 808 PureView makes it possible for anyone to capture professional looking images in various conditions.

Michael Kaschke, CEO, Carl Zeiss AG, "When joining forces with Nokia in 2005, we wanted to push the boundaries of mobile photography. Looking back at seven years of successful partnership, we are proud of the innovations and outstanding products created in this shared journey. Today we are celebrating the extension of our collaboration with a new technology that sets another real benchmark in this sector.

With the extension of their partnership, camera phone technology is only going to get a further boost in the times to come.
