Nokia Lumia 820 specifications emerge

| by Aaron Almeida | Smartphones

With the Nokia World 2012 event just around the corner, we expect the brand to showcase a range of smartphones that are baked with the latest Windows Phone operating system. These handsets will definitely be the talking point of the event and it will be Nokia’s attempt to re-establish itself as a major smartphone manufacturer in a space that is currently dominated by the likes of Samsung and Apple. Prior to the event, there has been a range of leaks regarding the upcoming devices and recently, through a Twitter account, a number of images of upcoming Nokia handsets had surfaced. Besides the image leaks, there have been a few rumblings of some of the specifications that are expected to be featured in the flagship smartphone, the Nokia Lumia 920. As per a report by The Verge, the other handset that is set to make an appearance – the Lumia 820 – has also been exposed. The tech website has got some specifications as well for this soon to be announced smartphone from Nokia.

Tom Warren states in his report that “Nokia will introduce its latest Lumia 820 handset at a special event with Microsoft on Wednesday September 5th, we have learned. Images of the Lumia 820 leaked last week and we have been able to confirm them with multiple sources. The 4.3-inch Lumia 820 will be Nokia's new mid- to high-end Windows Phone and will feature some of the same impressive hardware specifications that its big brother (Lumia 920) also includes.”

One of the impressive points in the specs sheet is that the Lumia 820 will come equipped with wireless charging capabilitiy, which will allow users to charge the Windows Phone 8 smartphone without the use of cables. Warren states, “However, we undertand that owners will need to purchase an additional cover to enable the functionality. One unique aspect to the Lumia 820 is the ability to change the rear covers of the device. We understand that, like the 710, owners of the 820 will be able to purchase additional colors for the device.”

The handset will come with 8GB of internal storage and a microSD card slot to further expand the available storage. The Nokia Lumia 820 is expected to be powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core processor and will feature 1GB RAM – attributes which are similar to the Lumia 920. Commenting on the camera of the Lumia 820, the report states, “We understand that the Lumia 820's camera will be similar to its Lumia 920 counterpart, but we're unable to confirm whether the company will be branding it as PureView.” As of now, there are no specifications available for the camera on this yet unannounced handset from Nokia.

Apart from these features, we can tell from the leaked images that the handset will come in more than one colour option. This is in line with most other smartphones from Nokia, which it launches in vibrant hues.
