Official images of Nexus 4 leaked again

| by Aaron Almeida | Smartphones

The Nexus 4 appears to be one of the worst kept secrets from both LG and Google. After being listed on a retailer's website and posing for numerous pictures, the handset has once again been revealed in a press shot posted by the ever-present tipster @Evleaks on his or her Twitter account. The latest images fall in line with the various other images that had been leaked in the past.

The LG Nexus 4 was expected to be announced at the Android event slated for today, October 29. However, the event has been cancelled due to Hurricane Sandy that hits the East Coast of the US today.

The Nexus 4 has recently made its way to pre-orders on a noted retailer’s website. Apart from the listing, there are a few revelations about the handset. When Google takes the stage to announce it at the Android event, this handset will probably face the case of been there, seen that.

From the listing, we can see that the handset will feature a 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor and 2GB of RAM. As this handset is based on the LG Optimus G, these specifications are similar as the one’s found on LG’s flagship handset. The smartphone comes equipped with a 4.7-inch LCD touchscreen that sports a resolution of 1280 x 768 pixels. The handset apparently features only 8GB of onboard storage and not 16GB as believed earlier. However, this could be a listing of the 8GB model and Google could in fact announce a 16GB version as well. The handset does not come with expandable storage as well, so like the previous generations, this handset will be devoid of a microSD card slot.

As for connectivity, the handset will feature 2G quad band and tri band 3G with no LTE capabilities. The handset also features Wi-Fi, NFC and Bluetooth. The Nexus 4 is listed as having an 8+ MP camera. It is more likely to be an 8MP camera and a front-facing one. The rear camera also has Autofocus, LED flash, Touch focus, geo-tagging and face detection capabilities. The primary camera can record video in 1080p and the listing states that these capabilities are ideal for making mini movies on the go, and now devices can capture DVD-like or even HD quality video clips.

As for the operating system, there is a matter of confusion here as the retailer has listed the handset to run on Android v4.2 in the heading while in the specifications of the device, the handset appears to run on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean. This could be an error on the part of the retailer as the handset is expected to launch running the next operating system.

It appears that the shine of this highly awaited handset has been stolen once more by @Evleaks. The only thing we can wait for is what unique software will feature along with the handset that can set it apart from the competition.

If you’ve used any of Samsung’s flagships in the past, you’ll be right at home with the new S4. We quite liked the handset during our brief encounter with it a few weeks back and after using it for about a week, we have come to like it even more.
