Overheating causes yellow tinge on displays of few Xperia S handsets

| by Aaron Almeida | Smartphones

Over the last couple of weeks a high profile device came under the radar due to an overheating issue. The device in question was none other than the latest iPad from Apple where some users claimed it got fairly hot after some amount of usage. This time around it appears another prominent handset, the Sony Xperia S is receiving some flak due to overheating. As per an exclusive report by CNET, a certain number of Xperia S smartphones appear to have a display issue where the screen starts getting a yellow tinge after it turns a bit warm.

The tech related website proceeded to contact Sony regarding this issue and the brand have acknowledged this issue by stating, “Sony Mobile Communications has identified that the display on a limited number of Xperia S smart phones may show a slight yellow tint if exposed to temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius.” Sony claims that only a limited number of handsets have been plagued with this issue and those who have purchased it may go to their local Sony retailer and get their handset replaced for free.

For those who do not know what the Sony Xperia S is about, here is a quick look at the features of this smartphone:

  • Android Gingerbread (Upgradeable to ICS)
  • 4.3-inch HD display with a resolution of 1280 x 720
  • 1.5GHz dual-core processor with a MSM8260 chipset, 1GB RAM
  • 12 megapixel camera with Sony Exmor R sensor and 1080p video recording capabilities
  • 1.3 megapixel front camera with 720p@30 fps
  • 32GB internal memory

We already have had a chance to get the Xperia S in our labs and we were lucky enough to receive a handset that did not face this issue. The first Sony only handset after the brand broke their relationship with Ericsson had done well in our review. For the full review on the flagship handset from Sony, click here. The handset is not yet available officially in the Indian market yet; however, one can expect it to land on shelves apart from those on the gray market in a few days time. If you do buy this handset and face this issue you could get it replaced by a Sony retailer.

 7.0

We’ve already established that the Lumia 720 is Nokia’s best effort as far as Windows Phone 8 handsets go. This could soon change once the Lumia 925 hits markets, but as it stands now, the Lumia 720 offers the best blend of features and performance, wrapped in a beautiful package that’s quite affordable.
