Samsung Galaxy Note 2 may have a 13MP camera and arrive in late August

| by Aaron Almeida | Smartphones

Over the last few days there has been a lot of talk about the 2012 edition of the Galaxy Note and most of the rumours stem around the fact that it will have a larger display in comparison to its predecessor, the Galaxy Note, which boasted a large 5.3-inch screen. Though there are other rumours surrounding the hardware that will feature on the smartphone, the optics that are to be found in the camera are still in doubt with previous reports indicating that it would feature either an 8 or 12MP rear shooter. These rumours surrounding the camera have taken another twist as MK Business News have stated that the camera of the Galaxy Note 2 may be 13MP.

Is this what may arrive by September?

May be unveiled by August

As mentioned before, this is not the first time that we have heard about the second generation Galaxy Note and as reported earlier, this handset is expected to feature a larger display as compared to last year’s Galaxy Note. The next generation Galaxy Note is expected to feature the Pen-tile matrix display instead of the RGB variant used in the S II. Apart from the screen size, the design is said to be heavily inspired from the Galaxy S III, so we can expect a similar form factor with heavily rounded edges and a pebble-like design. If the Note 2 is indeed modeled around the S III, then there is a good chance that the phone will get some or all of the ‘S’ features like S Beam, Smart Stay eye tracking, Smart Voice, etc.

There aren't many more details on the handset, but users should expect an 13MP BSI sensor, one of the new Exynos SoCs (dual or quad is unknown, as of now) and with Jelly Bean announced, one can definitely expect this latest OS to be featured here. If not, then it would be loaded with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

Moving back to the display of the Galaxy Note 2, rumours suggest that the 5.5-inch display could feature a pixel density of 360ppi. Rumours also suggest that this year’s Galaxy Note will feature a faster CPU and more memory and is expected to be a major step up from the current model.

Here’s what we expect the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 to feature:

  • 5.5-inch Super AMOELD touchscreen with a 1680 × 1050
  • 4G LTE, EDGE, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, NFC
  • GPS possibly with GLNONASS and a-GPS support
  • Bluetooth possible v4.0 with USB and hopefully USB-on-the-go
  • 12/ 13 megapixel AF/Touchfocus camera with full HD video recording and playback
  • A front facing camera for video calls and chats
  • Possibly a 64GB edition, along with 16GB and 32GB versions all with expandable support
  • MHL for AV out

The report also goes on to state that the device will make its debut at IFA 2012 which will be held in late August. If Samsung does intend to launch this handset by August, then there is a good chance that it would arrive before the brand’s smartphone rival Apple who are expected to unveil their iPhone 5 by September.
