Samsung Galaxy S III mini image leaks ahead of unveiling today

| by Aaron Almeida | Smartphones

The head of Samsung Mobile Communications, JK Shin, recently confirmed that the Samsung Galaxy S III mini will be unveiled at an event slated to take place today. The smartphone will feature a display size of 4 inches. Now, a leaked image of the phone has surfaced that gives us a view of the handset being to be unveiled in Germany later today.

The Samsung Galaxy S III mini, as the name suggests, is based on the flagship Galaxy S III smartphone. From the images we can see the noticeable difference in the heights of the handsets. Another difference is that the front camera has been moved to the other side of the speaker.

The website that acquired the pictures has also put up a host of specifications of this upcoming handset. Here is a look at what to expect when Samsung unveils the handset later today:

  • 4.0-inch Super AMOLED Display with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels
  • 3G, Wi-Fi a / b / g / n 2.4/5GHz, DLNA, NFC
  • Bluetooth 4.0, MicroUSB-Port
  • 16GB internal storage and further expandable by up to 32GB via a microSD card
  • 5-megapixel rear camera with AF, LED Flash , VGA front-facing camera

Along with the above mentioned specifications, the Galaxy S III mini is expected to feature Android v4.2 (Jelly Bean) out of the box, and the handset will be powered by a 1GHz dual-core STE U8420 processor. This handset will come with 1GB of RAM.

As for the pricing of this handset, the Galaxy S III mini should hit shelves at a price of approximately 399 Euros, which translates to around Rs 27,000.

For a couple of years now, rumours have indicated that Apple would introduce a miniature version of its flagship smartphone, the iPhone. This handset had been referred to as the iPhone mini or the iPhone nano. Somehow, the idea of this handset did not come to fruition. We still see an iPhone featuring a display size of 3.5-inches. Since Apple has not yet done it,  the brand’s biggest competitor, Samsung may be preparing a smaller-sized version of the Galaxy S III, which will be known as the Galaxy S III mini.

SamMobile had earlier stated in a report that Samsung was rumoured to release the Galaxy S III mini by the end of this year. The Samsung Galaxy S III Mini will try to fight the Apple iPhone 4S with a 5-megapixel camera, dual-core processor and 4-inch Super AMOLED screen with WVGA resolution. The Samsung Galaxy S III Mini is expected to cost around 250 Euros which does not seem to be the case if the recent report is to be believed compared to the iPhone 5 that costs around 650 Euros, with the latter featuring the same screen size.
