Samsung Galaxy S4 may not have many colour options

The well of information has leaked again, rewarding us mortals with more information about Samsung’s newest flagship, the Galaxy S4. One of Sammobile’s Samsung insiders has revealed that the Korean company plans to sell the Galaxy S4 in only two colour options. The smartphone will reportedly be available in only white and black.

If true, this would mean Samsung is not joining the current trend of selling colourful phones, at least with the Galaxy S4. Among manufacturers selling colourful phones, Nokia leads the pack with its highly colourful, peppy handsets. Sony has experimented with colours and designs for quite a while now, and HTC has taken a leaf from Nokia’s design book for its Windows Phone 8 handsets.

Besides the square edges the phone was recently revealed to have, the choice of a basic black or white colour scheme (if true) also signals a departure from the design strategy used with the Galaxy S3. The S4’s predecessor was available in brown, red, grey and black colours.

Could this be the Galaxy S4?

However, Samsung hasn’t abandoned the Galaxy series’ design choices completely. Mobile Fun got its hands on some plastic cases for the new flagship. The cases, of which there are several options to choose from, hint at a more angular design as opposed to the curvier corners of the Galaxy S3. They also suggest that the camera, LED flash and the speaker grille will be in the same place as the S3.

The electronics giant is, however, foraying into new ground with the S4. According to a Samsung insider who spoke to SamMobile, the company will be ditching the Exynos chipset to go with a Snapdragon 600 CPU clocked at 1.9GHz. This is contrary to a number of reports that claimed it would run on a dual quad-core Exynos CPU. 

Sammoble also mentioned that the S4 would come in three different versions: 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. All of Samsung’s Android offerings come with a microSD card slot, which makes storage space a non-issue, and it’s quite likely the S4 will support memory cards up to 64GB in size. If this piece of news turns out to be true, the top-end version of the S4 could support storage space up to 128GB. This would make a very significant selling point for Samsung.

Samsung has guarded the S4 well, and most leaks regarding the device appear to have happened in the last two to four months. But all of the Korean company’s might hasn’t stopped people from finding out how fast the phone will run. Rightware's Browsermark 2.0 benchmark scores for the Galaxy S4 were recently discovered by GSMArena. The results show that GT-I9500 has a Browsermark score of 2540, which is faster than the Optimus G, the HTC One and the Xperia Z. It also says that the benchmark score is superior to 99 percent of all handsets currently available in the market, and slots the browser at the top of Rightware’s leaderboard. The browser used in the test was Mobile Google Chrome 25, which is the latest version available.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 will be unveiled at an event in New York City on March 14.
