Samsung seeding Android 4.0.4 update for Galaxy Note, India still not on the list

| by Roydon Cerejo | Smartphones

It seems that Samsung wants to get all the ICS updates for their eligible handsets out of the way before starting work on Jelly Bean, as it’s now turn for the international version of the Galaxy Note to receive the coveted 4.0.4 update. Samsung is currently seeding the update in countries like Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Spain and the UK; India is still not on the list, but we expect the update to arrive soon. If you absolutely cannot wait for the OTA update, you always have the option of flashing it manually via Odin. The new ROM version is N7000XXLRG and you can grab it from Sammobile. The flashing process is pretty straightforward: put your phone in download mode, fire up Odin and add the corresponding files (PDA, CSC, PIT, etc.) and flash! If you’ve never done this before, a quick Google search should bring up a ton of guides.

ICS is coming.....

4.0.4 enroute

The update also adds some cool features like a signature lock and Pop-up play, which we first saw in the Galaxy S III. Along with ICS come a few more “installments” of upgrades that include Samsung’s new “Premium Suite”. This new service will ensure that Galaxy Note users get the very best out of the device with dedicated apps and widgets made available to suit the handset's much larger display (compared to regular handsets) and, of course, the S-Pen. Apps and widgets, like the S Note app and a new S Memo widget for the homescreen, will now be available via the update. Both of these should help enhance the S-Pen’s use.

The Note runs on a dual-core 1.4GHz ARM Cortex A9 processor and a Mali-400MP GPU with an Exynos chipset. Also, this ‘MiniTab’ bears a striking resemblance to the Dell Streak, which was a 5-incher as well and was launched way back in May 2010. The main USP of the Galaxy Note is its massive 5.3-inch screen and the advanced S-Pen interface is useful for taking notes on the go.

Some of the Note's specifications include:

  • 5.3-inch HD Super AMOLED WXGA Capacitive touchscreen with a 1280 x 800 pixel resolution
  • 3G, EDGE/GPRS, Wi-Fi
  • GPS with A-GPS support and Google Maps
  • Bluetooth 3.0 with A2DP, USB 2.0 HS
  • 8 megapixel camera with LED flash, 1080p video recording
  • Stereo FM radio with RDS
  • Memory expandable up to 32 GB via microSD card
  • 3.5 mm handsfree socket
