Samsung shows off stress testing for Galaxy S III

Samsung makes some of the most popular phones in the world, but the company is also very well known for having devices that feel cheap and plasticky. To put all fears aside, Samsung has released a video - one that is admittedly scary - that showcases how the company stress tests its devices.

The video shows the Samsung Galaxy S III being put through scenarios that would give any owner of the device cardiac arrest. These include having a giant robot butt sit on the phone and spraying water directly at it. Because having a giant robot sit on your phone is a very valid concern when buying a device these days.

While this may put a rest those wondering about the fragility of the Galaxy S III, the software side of things has been equally sunny. Samsung had resumed rolling out the Android 4.1 update for the Galaxy S III after having suspended it for a while. The update had begun rolling out on November 22, and many were not able to receive it over-the-air (OTA). We had tried to update the device OTA, but we kept receiving the error message, “Access to the software update service is provided to users in the order in which they request it. Try later.”

However, the update is available through the Kies software, and its file size is 310MB. It appears as if one would have to wait for a while to update the handset through the over-the-air update. To update the firmware, all that the users of the S III need to do is go to the phone’s settings and check if it is available.

Put through a battery of horrifying tests

Android 4.1 builds on top of Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). This operating system is designed to make everything smoother, faster, and more fluid. Notifications are now more dynamic, allowing you to access and interact with the alert from the drop down menu itself without ever having to open the app. Another interesting feature is that voice typing is now faster, working even when one does not have a data connection. Google had also stated that it has re-designed search from the ground up in Jelly Bean with a new user interface and faster, more natural Voice Search. It went on to state that one can type one's query or simply ask Google a question. The voice search feature can speak back, delivering a precise answer powered by the Knowledge Graph, if it knows one, in addition to a list of search results.
