Sennheiser headphones free with the Lumia 510 for Rs 10,499

| by Shunal Doke | Smartphones

Despite the currently available Windows Phone 8 handsets, and the upcoming Lumia 620, Nokia still seems to be pushing for its older devices. The company is now selling the entry-level Lumia 510 on its online store and is including a pair of Sennheiser headphones for free. The company claims that the headphones are worth Rs 1,750. The phone will set you back Rs 10,499, which is slightly higher than the price the device was launched at.

This is an odd move by Nokia, especially considering that its entry-level Windows Phone 8 handset seems to be right around the corner. While the device may seem like a decent alternative to similarly priced Android devices, it is worth noting that WP8 apps are not compatible with WP7. The closest thing buyers will have to the WP8 experience will be the updated homescreen that comes with the WP7.8 update.

The phone was launched back in November at a price of Rs 9,999 and comes with Windows Phone 7.5 out of the box. While earlier reports talk about a budget Lumia handset, Nokia still surprised everyone with the launch of the Lumia 510.

The budget Lumia is powered by an 800MHz single-core processor and features 256MB of RAM. These details are on par with the specifications leaked earlier. Apart from this, the handset features a 4-inch WVGA display with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels and 4GB of internal memory. The handset will also come equipped with 7GB of cloud storage. The handset features a 5-megapixel rear camera, but unfortunately, no front-facing camera. The smartphone uses a 1300mAh battery that should offer a fairly good battery life.

Besides the above mentioned features, Nokia has also preloaded the handset with a bundle of other Nokia powered apps such as Maps, Transport and Drive. Three months of unlimited access to Nokia Music and Nokia MixRadio will also be available for consumers of this handset. To enhance the camera abilities, Nokia has also given users the option to download Camera Extras.

For those who upgrade to the Windows Phone 7.8 platform, Nokia stated that it will deliver existing Lumia customers exclusive new Marketplace apps such as Camera Extras to bring new possibilities to the Lumia line-up, including panorama shots, a self-timer, Action Shot for capturing movement and Smart Group Shot for creating the perfect group shot from several different images; new features for Nokia Drive and Nokia Transport; and also distributing a pattern of updates such as Wi-Fi tethering and flip-to-silence.

Handsets running the Windows Phone 7.8 operating system will not be able to get the Windows Phone 8 update. However, the devices will be allowed to download new apps from companies such as Zynga.

We’ve already established that the Lumia 720 is Nokia’s best effort as far as Windows Phone 8 handsets go. This could soon change once the Lumia 925 hits markets, but as it stands now, the Lumia 720 offers the best blend of features and performance, wrapped in a beautiful package that’s quite affordable.
