Sony Xperia ion may come to India in Q2

| by Aaron Almeida | Smartphones

Back in January at the Consumer Electronics Show held in Las Vegas, Sony officially took the wraps off, what was their first, Sony-only branded smartphone. At the time of the announcement, Paul Hamnett, President, Sony Mobile Communcations, said, “With Xperia ion, we’re bringing together several firsts that will take users beyond the smartphone. Designed to deliver a seamless experience across the multiple screens we use to play, watch, listen, and share, Xperia ion is the gateway to entertainment when and – most importantly – where you want it.”

The projected launch date of this handset was the second quarter of 2012 and it was expected to land in the U.S before being available worldwide. However, it seems that Taiwan has overtaken the U.S in receiving this smartphone with Digitimes reporting that the brand has already announced the smartphone in that region and will be available by late May. In the Digitimes report, there was no actual date available for its release, but a report by The Mobile Indian claims that the Sony Xperia ion will hit the shelves in Taiwan by the 15th of May. Another interesting bit of information is that this handset will debut in India later this year.
