Sony Xperia LT25i emerges in benchmarks, runs on Android 4.0.4 ICS

Sony has been making news in a major way of late. The company recently unveiled the Xperia Ion in India and is rumoured to be introducing the Xperia Tablet soon. Another handset that's coming our way appears to be the Xperia LT25i Tsubasa, which has been spotted in the NenaMark2 and AnTuTu benchmarks.

As per a report by Xperia Blog, this handset is codenamed 'Tsubasa' and will feature both LTE and HSPA+ connectivity options. Based on the model number it features, the website states that it will be slotted in a category just below the Xperia S, which featured the codename LT26i, as far as specifications are concerned.

Spotted in NenaMark benchmark

The website goes on to state, “The Sony LT25i recently popped up in a couple of benchmarks. NenaMark2 shows that the handset will have a 720 x 1280 resolution and the fact that the benchmark shows the resolution as 720 x 1196 points to virtual buttons being used. It also highlights the Adreno 225 GPU, which most likely means it will run the Qualcomm S4 Snapdragon MSM8960 chipset (1.5 GHz dual-core). This is pretty much confirmed by AnTuTu, which displays the clock speed as 1.5 GHz.”

As of now, these are the only details available for the handset and nothing else is quite yet known.

Sony recently launched the Xperia Ion in India, which comes with the outdated version of Android OS, but an upgrade to Android v4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) is in the pipeline. This NFC-ready phone is available in red and black variants. The price is quite high for a phone that ships with a really old implementation of Android, but the handset makes up for it in the specs department. At any rate, you are still at Sony’s mercy for the ICS update, especially since there’s no word on whether the Ion will receive Jelly Bean at all.

The Xperia Ion toes the current trend of smartphones bearing large displays, with its 4.6-inch LCD screen and a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. The phone is powered by a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor and an Adreno 220 GPU. It features a 16 GB expandable memory that's expandable up to 32 GB with its microSD card slot. The primary camera is rated at 12 MP and is capable of 1080p video recording. The device is also equipped with a 1.3 MP front-facing camera for video conferencing at 720p resolution. Its 1900 mAh battery is well endowed and should offer decent battery backup time considering its hardware specs. The manufacturer claims a standby time of up to 400 hours with 2G and up to 350 hours with 3G, radio-enabled.

If the Sony LT25i sits just below the Xperia S, then we can expect this handset to cost around the Rs. 30,000 mark and be significantly cheaper than the Xperia Ion when it debuts in India. However, as there is no word on the possible launch date, we may have to wait awhile till it reaches our shores.
