Sony Xperia S coming officially on April 10; free goodies for early birds

| by Karan Shah | Smartphones

The Sony Xperia S will be coming to Indian shores, soon, as per Sony’s official Indian Facebook page. While the other devices haven’t been disclosed as of now, there are chances that we might get to see the Xperia P and U as well and that could be pretty good news for Indian users.

For those of you’ll who have forgotten, we’ll remind you what the Xperia S boasts of:

  • Android Gingerbread (Upgradeable to ICS)
  • 4.3-inch HD display with a resolution of 1280 x 720
  • 1.5GHz dual-core processor with a MSM8260 chipset, 1GB RAM
  • 12 megapixel camera with Sony Exmor R sensor and 1080p video recording capabilities
  • 1.3 megapixel front camera with 720p@30 fps
  • 32GB internal memory
  • HDMI port
  • Weighs 144g

We loved the Xperia S' brilliant 720p screen in a 4.3-inch screen size, making it higher than the Retina display of the iPhone 4. It has GLONASS navigation system as well. The camera, although might not be impressive for indoor shooting, is absolutely brilliant for outdoor shots. They've modified the interface slightly - the music player gets a new look, the apps and the Timescape UI is smooth and easy to use. What's important to note, however is the fact that the battery life isn't really that impressive. It lasted at maximum, a day, under heavy usage. The build and the finish is extremely brilliant, though and Sony's latest flagship is definitely a marked improvement over their previous Xperia phones. More pros and cons have been covered in our full review for the Sony Xperia S

The other upcoming smartphones by Sony, include the Xperia P and the Xperia U and there are chances that they will be unveiled at that particular date as well.

Here’s what the spec sheet for the Xperia P looks like:

  • Android 2.3 Gingerbread
  • 1GHz dual-core processor
  • 4-inch Reality Display powered by Mobile BRAVIA Engine
  • WhiteMagic display technology
  • 8MP camera with fast capture, HD recording, 2D and 3D panoramic images capture capability
  • HDMI, DLNA
  • NFC
  • Will be available in silver, black and red
Xperia P and U - worth a buy?

Xperia P and U

The Xperia U has the following specs:

  • Android 2.3 Gingerbread
  • 3.5-inch Reality Display powered by Mobile BRAVIA Engine
  • 1GHz dual-core processor
  • 5MP camera with fast capture, HD recording, 2D and 3D panoramic images capture capability
  • xLoud and 3D surround sound audio technology
  • Will be available in white or black, with pink and yellow

 7.0

We’ve already established that the Lumia 720 is Nokia’s best effort as far as Windows Phone 8 handsets go. This could soon change once the Lumia 925 hits markets, but as it stands now, the Lumia 720 offers the best blend of features and performance, wrapped in a beautiful package that’s quite affordable.
