If you own an Xperia T, Xperia TX and an Xperia V smartphone, then 2013 is going to be one exciting year for you. In an official blog post, Sony Mobile has shared its Jelly Bean upgrade plans for the above mentioned smartphones from this year. As per the post, the Jelly Bean upgrade plans for the Xperia T, TX and V are moving forward, and these smartphones will be upgraded to Jelly Bean during February and March. The Xperia P, J and go smartphones will be the next in line to receive the upgrade - from the end of March. Upgrades to the Xperia S, SL, ion and acro S will follow in the weeks to come. ![]() Jelly Bean upgrades all the way!
Sadly though, Xperia U, miro, tipo and sola smartphone users will have stay content with Android 4.0, since it has been decided to not upgrade these phones further. Sony Mobile shares that they will be bringing more information on the Sony Xperia Jelly Bean features and functionality in the New Year.
The company had only recently announced that the Android v4.1 (Jelly Bean) update will be released to a number of Xperia models in the first quarter of 2013. Late in October this year, it also shared the names of the handsets that are scheduled to receive the upgrade. At the time however, there was no word on the date of availability of Jelly Bean for these handsets.
At the time Sony announced, “We were glad to provide the Android 4.0.4 upgrade for our 2011 Xperia portfolio across most markets and the majority of models but, after thorough evaluation, we have concluded they will not be upgraded beyond Ice Cream Sandwich.” It now appears that as far as updates go, it is the end of the line for the 2011 Xperia models. Sony states that upgrading to versions higher than Ice Cream Sandwich would not guarantee owners of these smartphones the user experience they expect and Sony demands. Sony will, however, continue to support all these products with firmware maintenance releases.
For those not in the know, this flagship handset from Sony, the Xperia T comes equipped with a 4.6-inch HD display. Commenting on this Sony says that along with the Mobile Bravia Engine in tow, it is capable of offering razor sharp clarity. With most of the major brands going the quad-core direction, Sony has opted for a 1.5GHz dual-core processor and the reason behind this, the brand states, is that it is for an improved battery life, fast performance and sharp graphics.
Here is a quick look at the highlighted features of the Sony Xperia T:
