Update: RIM to Launch BlackBerry Bold 9900 Today

Update: The initial news we reported about RIM launching its latest addition to the Bold Series i.e. the 9900, was true. It looks like the company plans on launching the device later today. Rim has been consistently trying to reinvent themselves the last year or so by cashing in on the whole BBM trend, but the recent announcement of the all new range of devices catering to all kinds of users is what’s gotten our attention. If ever BlackBerry needed a shot in the arm to boost sales, perhaps the Bold 9900 is just it.

Coming today

The all new Bold that’s cashing on the touch and type style form factor while retaining BlackBerry’s traditional styling in Black and chrome is, according to some of our sources, due to launch tomorrow i.e. the 11th of August. We have high hopes for this new smartphone that RIM has loaded with all kinds of goodies including a 1.2GHz processor, NFC support and of course BlackBerry OS 7. The Bold 9900 will also feature-

• a 2.8-inch capacitive touchscreen with a 640 x 480 pixel resolution
• 3G, BIS, BES, WiFi, with Hot Spot creation for internet sharing
• GPS with a-GPS support for third party maps
• Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP, USB 2.0
• 5 MP, fixed focus camera with an Led flash and 720p video recording
• 8GB internal memory with microSD card support for up to 32GB more

Although there’s been no official pricing that’s made it out just yet, we’re estimating, taking into account the specs, that the Bold 9900 should be out for about Rs. 34,000.
