Users complaining of quicker battery loss after iOS 6.0.2 update

| by Aaron Almeida | Smartphones

Apple has recently released its latest update for the iPhone 5 and iPad mini in order to fix a W-Fi issue that affected the said devices. However, it now appears that users who have updated their handsets are plagued with battery draining issues. They are complaining that their battery is draining a lot quicker.

The issue appears to be plaguing the iPhone 5 a lot more than the iPad mini. Prior to the update, we found the battery life to be decent on the iPhone 5. With normal usage, the handset could be used for a day without it depleting too much. However, after the update, with the same amount of usage, the battery appears to be draining a lot faster than before.

New issue has popped up

The iPad mini does not seem to be as affected and the battery drain is not very significant. However, it is more noticeable than before the operating system was updated.

People on Apple discussion forums have put up posts such as, “I'm losing 10% an hour roughly light web only, 100% at 1pm, 63% at 4.48pm 6.0.2 is caning the battery. Please sort it Apple!” while another states, “I forgot to mention that my phone is heating up while battery drains out.”

However, many people are not facing this issue and it appears that those facing the issue are in the minority. Apple needs to send out a fix soon for this issue as the battery life of the handset is a strong selling point of the iPhone 5.

A couple of days ago, Apple had released a minor update – iOS 6.0.2 – to fix the Wi-Fi issue. The Wi-Fi issue has been a long standing one and seems to be affecting the newest iOS devices, the iPhone 5 and iPad Mini.

The Wi-Fi issue was also attempted to be fixed with iOS 6.0.1, but the problem was still plaguing users, prompting Apple to release the iOS 6.0.2 update. This update has no attached frills and is clearly intended to fix the niggling Wi-Fi issue only. Though the update has not specifically mentioned which issues it intends to target in particular, complaints about devices have ranged from poor reception to no connectivity at all on Wi-Fi.

Apple released the iOS 6.0.1 update in early November, coinciding with the Indian release of iPhone 5. The loaded update brought along with it bug fixes to prevent the iPhone 5 from installing software updates wirelessly over the air, horizontal lines displayed across the keyboard and a non-responsive camera flash. It was also supposed to have improved the reliability of iPhone 5 and iPod touch (5th generation) when connected to encrypted WPA2 Wi-Fi networks, something that it failed to do to a certain extent. Introducing iOS 6 was the other major announcement that Apple had made while launching its newest iPhone 5. The OS was made available for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.

If you’ve used any of Samsung’s flagships in the past, you’ll be right at home with the new S4. We quite liked the handset during our brief encounter with it a few weeks back and after using it for about a week, we have come to like it even more.
